District Well Owner Wins “Rain Catcher of the Year”

You may remember our first Well Owner Spotlight article highlighting the impressive water conservation efforts of Victoria and Travis Cox in Driftwood, Texas. Now they’ve received well earned recognition from the state. The Texas Water Development Board announced that the Coxes are one of their 2025 Rain Catchers of the Year. They were the recipients of the award in the “Commercial” sector for their extensive rainwater harvesting efforts.

“We are truly honored to receive the esteemed 2025 Texas Rain Catcher Award. This recognition highlights our commitment to sustainable practices and innovative water conservation solutions,” said Victoria Cox.

“By incorporating advanced rainwater harvesting systems, we aim to set a standard for other commercial developments, showing that environmental stewardship can coexist with business success.”

Victoria added, “Looking ahead, we are eager to address regulatory restrictions to enable expanded conservation practices. We also hope to work closely with the state to explore the possibility of introducing a water conservation tax exemption for commercial properties that invest in their water conservation infrastructure. We have a long way to go and winning this award was a great start to show Texas it can be done!“

The District is proud of the Coxes’ accomplishments and looks forward to the next phase of their project implementation as they expand their water conservation efforts.
